Why Have a Neck Lift?

As we age, the skin on our neck starts to wrinkle and sag, resulting in jowls and a double chin. This is due to the gradual breakdown of the supporting structures and loss of elasticity in the neck from everyday life, gravity, sun exposure, stress, weight gain or loss.

A tired-looking neck can be a source of self-consciousness and make us look older than we feel, but fortunately, there is a solution called a neck lift - also known as a platysmaplasty or lower rhytidectomy.

A neck lift is a cosmetic procedure that tightens the loose and sagging skin on the neck, smoothes out wrinkles and redefines the neck and jawline, shaving years off your appearance.

Neck Lift Options

The procedures we offer at our cosmetic surgery for improving the neck area are numerous, as they can be performed separately or combined with facelift surgery or other cosmetic procedures to achieve the desired result. Some of the most common options for neck lift procedures include:

Traditional Neck Lift Surgery:

The traditional method of neck lifts involves surgically removing excess fat and skin from under the chin and neck area and tightening muscles to remove the vertical lines on the neck - (banding). The remaining skin is reshaped to form a more toned appearance. An incision is made in front of and behind the ear to remove excess skin. Sometimes, this incision is made under the chin when the muscle supporting the neck skin needs to be tightened.

In elderly patients, we remove the loose skin directly under the chin through a gentle zig-zag incision. No incision is made around the ears, which greatly minimises complications in the procedure.

The neck lift surgery can be performed under general anaesthesia or with a sedative-based local anaesthetic, which generally takes up to three hours.

Neck lift without Surgery:

thread lift is a non-surgical way to address an ageing neck and jawline by inserting special threads to pull the sagging facial tissues tighter.

Under local anaesthetic and mild sedative, a thin needle (cannula) is used to strategically insert the threads, which are slid in opposite directions to smooth the skin. The skin will feel 'lifted' against the signs of ageing and gravity, and drooping skin will look contoured, with results lasting as long as five years!

Combining Procedures

Many patients combine a neck lift with another procedure to save time and get the maximum result from a visit. Non surgical facelift procedures are a popular choice as the face and neck are closely connected, and combining procedures can result in a revitalised and natural look. Common procedures are:

Anti-wrinkle injections

Brow Lift

Chin Augmentation

Dermal Fillers

Eyebag removal

Main Benefits of a Neck Lift

Minimal scarring: Extra care is taken to minimise scarring, with small sutures placed under the chin and behind the ears. Any small scarring will fade over time.

Long-lasting results: With proper care and maintaining a healthy weight and diet, the results can last between 10 to 15 years

Improved neck contour: Removes excess neck skin and fat deposits, resulting in a smoother, more defined neck contour.

Elimination of neck bands: Tightens the muscles in the neck that cause neck bands

Reduction of jowls: Addresses the droopy skin and excess fat around the jawline, reducing the appearance of jowls

Refreshed appearance: Significantly improves the overall appearance of the neck and lower face

It is important to note that individual results may vary, and the success of a necklift will depend on various factors such as age, anatomy, and skin quality. Consulting with a specialist plastic surgeon is essential to determine if one is a suitable candidate for a necklift and to discuss the expected outcomes.
